Girls' Varsity Squash Edged by Tabor, 4-3

2/12/2018 2:00:00 PM

Girls' Squash took on Tabor Saturday in what turned out to be one of the closest and most exciting matches of the year. Unfortunately, the Zebras, playing without their #1 and #6 players, didn't have quite enough strength to hold off a determined Tabor squad and lost 4-3. Winning for MX were senior Nina Thomas at #2 3-0, junior Margaret Rand at #4 3-2, and freshman Natalie McCall at #5 3-1. After winning the first two games with some excellent power hitting to the back in the #4 match, Margaret faced a determined opponent hitting a lot of winners to the front in the next two games; thus, the match went to the fifth game, in which Margaret resumed hitting powerful shots to the back and ran out the match 11-3 for the 3-2 victory. At #6, freshman Olivia Quinn came back from a game down to tie the match at a game apiece; then she came back from 2-1 down to tie the match at 2 games apiece; finally she came back from down 5-9 in the fifth to tie the fifth game 9-9. However, her Tabor opponent won the last two points and Olivia fell just a little short in her heroic comeback effort.  The team looks forward to hosting Exeter on Wednesday in what will be the team's last home match this season.
