Boys' Varsity Hockey Rolls Past St. George's, 4-1

2/1/2018 11:23:00 AM

The Zebras put forth an outstanding team effort today verse arch rival St George's, capturing a 4-1 victory at home.  It was evident from the drop of the puck that the Zebras were on their game, playing fast and aggressive, and causing turnovers in all three zones.  It was with 6 minutes remaining in the first period that they would cash in on one of those turnovers, as juniors Alex Rivet and Nick Angelis broke free after forcing a St. George's defender to lose possession on the offensive blue line.  Angelis put a beautiful pass on Rivet's stick, who made no mistake in depositing the puck in the top corner.  The score remained 1-0 until until late in the second period, when St. George's capitalized on a brilliant individual effort to even the score.  The score would not be tied for long however, as the duo of Rivet and Angelis struck again minutes later for the eventual game winner.  This time it was Rivet who made the pass and Angelis who finished it off.  Junior Jared Arnold earned an assist on the play as well.  In the third, it was the captains that would put the finishing touches on the game.  Senior captain Dylan Field tipped in a Zach McCrystal shot on a 5 v 3 power play to make it 3-1, and captain Harrison Clark put the game away, burying a breakaway opportunity off of a deft pass from Angelis to make it 4-1.  Predictably, junior goalie Joe Stanizzi was brilliant once again, stopping 37 of 38 shots.  The win moves the Zebras to 6-7-1.  They will look to get back to .500 on Saturday as they travel to Brooks for a 3PM tilt.
