Boys' Varsity Basketball Sweeps at Huckins-Rouse Tournament

The Boys' Varsity Basketball team went 3-0 over the weekend at the annual Huckins-Rouse Holiday Tournament at Middlesex. The Zebras defeated Portsmouth Abbey 53-29, as co-captain Tyler Gelormini returned to the court and contributed 13 points.  Anthony Porras led MX with 14 points and 6 assists.  Stuart McCallum had 9 points and 7 rebounds.  Sahnai Swain-Price contributed 10 rebounds in his first career start .  Joe Belisanti, Lucas DeGreeff, Thomas Bolen, Eamon O'Malley and Oscar Adams also got into the scoring for Middlesex.  In game two, MX (4-2) got out of the gate slow on and trailed the Brewster Varsity 28-26 at the half.  The Middlesex backcourt took over in the 2nd half.  The trio of Anthony Porras (17 points), Tyler Gelormini (16 points) and Matt Pelletier (13 points), combined for 29 of the 39 points in the 2nd half.  Eamon O'Malley contributed 9 points. The Zebras defeated Brewster 65-54. 

In the final game of the Huckins-Rouse Tournament, MX rushed out to a 20 point halftime lead, 39-19.  They reversed roles in the 2nd half as Berwick scored 8 straight to start the half and eventually took the lead by 6 with four minutes left to play.  Middlesex needed layup by Stuart McCallum on a nice pass by Anthony Porras with 8.6 seconds remaining to force overtime.  

In overtime, Berwick scored the first 8 points and looked to be in control with under 2 minutes to go when Oscar Adams, playing in his first varsity start, sparked the comeback with a 3-pointer.  McCallum made one of two free throws on the next possession to cut the lead to 75-71.  Adams then made a key blocked shot of a Berwick layup as Porras brought the ball the other way to find Tyler Gelormini for a transition 3 to cut the lead to 75-74 with under a minute to go.   MX got another defensive stop and McCallum got consecutive offensive rebounds. On the second one, he layed it in for the game-winning basket with 20 seconds to go.  McCallum finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds his 2nd double-double of the week.  Anthony Porras had his first with 19 points and 10 assists.  Gelormini had 20 points, 5 boards, and 4 assists.  Matt Pelletier had 15 points and 7 rebs while Sahnai Swain-Price had 10 rebounds.
