Girls' Varsity Squash Defeats Concord Academy, 6-1

12/15/2018 10:13:00 AM

The Zebras hosted Concord Academy for their first home match on Friday, during the weekend break from exams. The team quickly found its form, brushing away its time away from the court, and Middlesex prevailed in general, though many of the matches were fought to the last ball. At #1 senior Mira Handa won impressively in three games, as did senior Syona Shah at #2. At #3 junior Averill Emery recovered from a slight lapse in the third game to create lots of space on the court in the fourth game and prevail in her match, winning the fourth game 11-3. At #5 sophomore Amelia Stevens used deep crosses and low hard shots to recover from an opening game loss and win in four close games. At #6 junior Dahlia Galante closed out a very tight match with hard serving in the fifth game to secure the victory. And at #7, sophomore Zoe Beede also recovered from an opening game loss to gain control of her match with clever shot placement, winning her match 3 games to 1. All in all, the team fought hard for every point and so prevailed in a number of close matches.
