Despite displaying tremendous resiliency, the boys' varsity hockey team dropped their ISL opener at Brooks on Wednesday, 4-2. Contending with the loss of three defensemen and two forwards to an array of injuries, adversity was certainly on the menu. After falling behind early, the Zebras settled in. Trailing 1-0 in the 2nd, the team brought more offensive urgency to the tune of 20 shots in a single period! However, Brooks would double their advantage on the powerplay. Late in the second frame, it seemed the momentum had finally shifted. Jared Arnold '19, jammed home a powerplay tally with under two minutes remaining in the period, cutting the lead in half. Kyle Heath '21 and Henry Andres '19 were credited with assists. In the final frame, Brian Cloherty '19 finished on a highlight reel goal to knot the score at 2 with under twelve minutes to go. Colin Craig '20 and Harry Friedman '20 registered assists on the goal. That was where the tide turned once again. Some late period penalties allowed Brooks to capitalize, to make the score 3-2. The hosts would later add an insurance goal as the Zebras had lifted their goalie in favor of an extra attacker. Once again, captain Joe Stanizzi '19 was brilliant in net, registering 48 saves. The team is back in action at home on Friday, 12/7 at 5:30, as they take on Berwick Academy.
