The Middlesex Wrestling team, youthful but eager to show their quality, opened the winter season at home with a 60-19 win over Milton Academy, in which seasoned veterans and underclassmen alike made their mark.
Freshman Julian Dai opened up the dual with a forfeit at 106, followed by freshman Daniel Okyere, junior Alene Fernandes, senior Turner Bredrup and freshman Love Daley also picking up six points by default for the Zebras. After tough losses by senior Sam Ferrone and junior Jose Garza, seniors Diego Flores and Dante Gutbrod secured the win for the team with impressive first period falls. Junior Cal Fries, junior Michael Conde and sophomore Axel Romell won by default at 182, 195 and 220 respectively, and freshman Nick DeBruin made his debut at heavyweight, competing hard but coming up short against Milton's senior captain.
Sophomore Connor Cross looked sharp in exhibition action at 145, earning a 10-7 comeback decision over his Mustang opponent. The Zebras return to the mat next Friday at St. Sebastian's School.
