Zebras Trick and Treat Past Exeter, 6-3

11/2/2018 10:34:00 AM

The Middlesex girls' soccer team traveled up to Phillips Exeter Wednesday to take on the Big Red on a gorgeous fall afternoon, a nice change of weather after Saturday's nor'easter.

Exeter got on the board first as Middlesex committed a hand-ball inside of their own penalty box just minutes into the game. Exeter converted the ensuing penalty kick, but Middlesex quickly responded by moving the ball down field and cashing in on a blast from Ellery Winkler '19. Middlesex continued to apply pressure all over the field, causing turnovers and creating scoring opportunities. Middlesex took the lead on a goal by Carly Tilson '20, then pushed the lead to 3-1 before halftime on freshman Hannah Barron's first career goal. Congratulations HB!

Middlesex continued to push the pace in the second half, and the scoring continued as Tilson added a second goal to her day, which was then followed up with a goal by Basha Waxman '21. At this point, goaltender Ali Joseph '20 was replaced by Annabel Austen '22, and both goaltenders played with great leadership and poise. Exeter sandwiched two goals around Winkler's second goal of the day to bring the final score to 6-3, Middlesex.

The lady Zebras hope to keep the momentum going as they hit the road again Friday to square off against perennial power Pingree School.

Thanks to the parents for making the trip to Exeter, and to the Gillis's for the Halloween baskets and tasty sandwiches!
