The Middlesex girls' soccer team took a break from the ISL slate Wednesday and traveled south to take on the Dana Hall Dragons on a classically crisp fall afternoon.
Â
Middlesex immediately took charge of the pace of the game from the opening kick-off and marched down the field with purpose. Just three minutes into the contest, a nifty give-and-go between midfielders Taryn Gillis '22 and Ellery Winkler '19 resulted in an open-net goal by Gillis.
Â
The lady zebras continued to apply pressure on the Dana Hall defensive line, creating turnovers and playing nice possession soccer throughout the opening half. A nice individual play by Winkler resulted in another great scoring opportunity, which she cashed in to push the halftime score to 2-0.
Â
Middlesex began the second half as they had started the game, applying pressure all over the field, and moving the ball nicely among each other. In particular, the strong play of defenders Nicollette Roark '20, Daisy Boynton '20, Izzy Moore '20, and Hannah O'Gara '20 kept the Dragons at bay and allowed the offense to try a number of different combinations on the field. Ali Joseph '20 was her usual stellar self in the Middlesex goal, and Annabel Austen '22 saw her first action between the pipes in the second half, displaying great athleticism and tenacity.
Â
Winkler closed out the scoring with a tally at the 70-minute mark, beautifully assisted by Moore.
Â
Middlesex returns to ISL competition this Saturday as Nobles comes to Chapel Field for a Parents' Weekend tilt.

Thanks to the parents for their support and post-game snacks!
