Girls' Cross Country Edged By Nobles

10/24/2018 2:00:00 PM

On a beautiful fall day in front of a very enthusiastic Parents' Weekend crowd, the zebras were defeated for the first time this season by defending ISL-champion Nobles.  Despite the team loss in the varsity scoring, a number of Middlesex runners had excellent races, and the JV team came up with the win, leaving our second seven undefeated for the season thus far. In addition, the team took advantage of the final home race to celebrate our seniors in their last race around our home course.  Soleil Kerfoot has been running for 2 years with us, Mary Odusami and Maud McCole for 3 years, and Wani Pandey, Charlotte O'Toole, Tess Kelley have been running for 4 years with our team.  We are very happy that our time with them on our roster is not over yet!

Maud McCole was again victorious for Middlesex, winning her 5th meet of the season and the 6th of her career.  She has yet to lose to a runner on another team this season, and determination on our home course for her last time set the tone for her teammates.  Charlotte O'Toole closed on the pair of Nobles front runners, but was unable to catch them, and finished 4th in one of the best races of her career. The Nobles pack ran strong and together, and their finishes in 5th - 8th places secured their team win.  While we were disappointed not to break into their scoring pack, we are motivated to continuing training and working towards our next time to race them at the ISL championships.  Alene Fernandes ran hard for 9th place, with teammate Grace Hu not far behind in 10th.  The Nobles 7th runner followed, with Jillian Robertson, Annabelle Rogers, and Nina Douge running well to conclude the Middlesex scoring.

In the JV race-within-a-race, Middlesex freshman Josie Silk came through with the win, holding off a fast closing Nobles runner who finished 2nd.  Meena Menon followed in 3rd place, with Maya Sidhu in 4th, and Grace Luettgen in 6th.  That was enough to secure the team win in the JV score despite the strong Nobles pack that followed, and Soleil Kerfoot passed in the last mile to finish 11th in the JV scoring.  Amelia Stevens and Tess Kelley with 6th and 7th for Mx.  Neha Kommineni ran a great race for a PR, and a number of runners ran their best times on our course.  The team was grateful for the positive attitudes and support of all members of the team, including those who were not able to run today.

The team looks forward to one more regular season race next week at Milton before entering the championship season.
