The Middlesex boys varsity cross country team will head into the final week of the regular season with an unblemished record after picking up a 20-41 victory over Nobles on the home course. The junior varsity defeated Nobles 18-41 to go to 9-2 on the season.
In perfect autumnal weather and dry conditions on the home course, the frontrunning duo of sophomore Caleb Gartner and junior co-captain Justin O'Toole once again led the way for the Zebras, finishing steps apart but comfortably ahead of the main pack. Junior Jack Starobin nearly stole third place overall to make it a clean sweep for Middlesex, but he was edged out at the line by the lead runner from Nobles. Sophomore Andrew Harris and senior Jack Audett both beat the Nobles number three to the line to secure the victory, as did sophomores David Latham and Connor Cross in the sixth and seventh positions.
Sophomore Cannon Caspar won the junior varsity race within a race with a commanding tactical performance, laying down consecutive negative splits on his way to a season PR of 19:39. He was followed by junior Logan Tonra, senior Sam Ferrone, senior John Fashek and sophomore Gavin Cassidy, with sophomores Trent Loughery and Zan Danoff rounding out the junior varsity top seven.
Middlesex will traveled to Cunningham Park in Milton this Saturday for the final quad of the regular season against Milton, St. George's and defending ISL champions Roxbury Latin.
