On a cool and crisp Friday, with gust of winds sweeping away the remnants of Thursday's storm, the boys of Middlesex faced their fellow Zebras on a damp but speedy course at Groton School, with both Middlesex teams earning decisive victories in the penultimate away meet of the regular season.
Sophomore Caleb Gartner and junior co-captain Justin O'Toole seized the lead in the first hundred meters and never relinquished their position, cruising to the finish steps apart in 16:54 and 16:55 respectively. They were followed closely by freshman Cooper Austen, junior Jack Starobin and senior co-captain Connor Page, with sophomores Andrew Harris and David Latham rounding out the varsity seven as the ISL-leading Zebras of Middlesex earned their 11th straight victory by 21-35 scoreline.
Senior Jack Audett, in his return to the course after a week's hiatus, won the junior varsity race within a race in 18:42, with sophomore Connor Cross hot on his heels. A gutsy performance by junior Logan Tonra secured a 19-42 victory as Middlesex swept the top three places. Sophomores Mac Hadden and Cannon Caspar claimed the fourth and fifth sports, with sophomore Gavin Cassidy and senior Sam Ferrone finishing sixth and seventh among the Middlesex JV.
The Zebra harriers will return to the home course next week for a dual meet against Noble & Greenough.
