The Middlesex Wrestling team opened the New Year with both an exciting victory against Landmark School and a disappointing loss to Roxbury Latin. The Zebras started the meet facing Landmark. As a bigger team, Middlesex Wrestling dominated them, both in varsity and exhibition matches. Among the highlights from the Landmark match are Michael Acevedo, Diego Flores, Dante Gutbrod, who all won by pin and Jack Caniff, who won by decision in a grueling match lasting the whole six minutes. The stellar performance against Landmark lead to a 54-15 victory, but Roxbury Latin proved to be a more difficult opponent. Amidst some hard losses, Jaden Chew, Dante Gutbrod, and Ted Pyne all won spectacularly by pin. Several wrestlers struggle as the lack of practice over the holiday break began to take effect as the other team edged us out in endurance in several matches, leading to a 48-18 loss. Despite the disappointing loss against Roxbury Latin, the team had a good day overall and are back on the mat to prepare for the match at Lawrence Academy on Wednesday, January 10.
