Boys' Varsity Hockey Edged in BB&N Comeback

1/8/2018 1:14:00 PM

A late third period comeback by BB&N pinned a 4-2 loss on the Zebras at home on Saturday afternoon. Middlesex got off to a great start with two first period strikes off the sticks of Justin Krayer and Tyler Hughey. Krayer led a strong rush down the left wing side after receiving a pass from Jared Arnold as they attacked in a three man rush with Brian Cloherty. Krayer's shot ricocheted off the BB&N defender to give the Zebras the early lead at 7:51. Later in the period, Middlesex won an offensive zone faceoff by Kyle Heath. Sophomore defenseman Cole Nye recovered a loose puck and sent a shot towards the BB&N goal that was tipped by Alex Rivet and Heath. Tyler Hughey advanced from the high slot to pick up the puck and put a well placed shot to the far side of the net to make it 2-0. The second period was scoreless and the shots on goal were fairly even at this point. But in the third period, BB&N came to life and took control of the game, outshooting the Zebras and controlling the territorial play. Two of BB&N's goals came from scrambles in tight to the goal line that resulted in tying the game at 2-2 just before the ten minute mark. A late miscue in the Middlesex's defensive zone resulted in an off angle shot that trickled in from the right of Middlesex goalie Joe Stanizzi, who finished with 34 saves. BB&N closed out the scoring with an empty net goal at 17:11 to seal the victory late in the game. Middlesex will host Portsmouth Abbey on Wednesday January 10th at 4:30 PM.
