Girls' Varsity Squash Edges Dana Hall, 4-3

1/14/2018 2:56:00 PM

On Saturday, Middlesex traveled to Dana Hall, and prevailed 4-3 in a very close match. The Zebras got off to a strong start, winning the first 4 matches decided; however, Dana Hall found strength as the afternoon wore on, and prevailed in the last three. At #4, sophomore Averill Emery just prevailed 3-1 in a tight see-saw match; Averill's clever serving--she took some pace off her serves to adjust to the faster courts--her length at key moments, and her low hard forehands helped her just edge her spirited opponent 11-8 in the fourth.  Averill's match was the first to finish and in the end, it proved the difference. Senior Nina Thomas won decisively at #3, moving her opponent to all four corners of the court. Shortly thereafter, freshman Natalie McCall at #7 came back from behind in the third game, using excellent serving and length, to win the game 12-10 and prevail in her match 3-0. Then junior Mira Handa, using clever serving and shot selection, prevailed 3-0 at #2 and sealed the victory for MX.
