Boys' Varsity Hockey Tops Portsmouth Abbey, 4-1

1/10/2018 8:56:00 PM

The Zebras hosted the Ravens of Portsmouth Abbey Wednesday afternoon in front of a packed house. Using a recipe of steady team defense and timely scoring, Middlesex defeated the visitors 4-1. After falling behind only 3:34 into the contest on a short handed tally, the Zebras would ride the white hot goaltending of junior Joe Stanizzi (26 saves), currently owner of one of the top save percentages (.952) in all of prep school hockey to victory.  Senior Daniel Kerfoot would open the scoring for the home team at 6:41 of the period on a beautiful backhand finish, with assists coming off the sticks of junior line- mate Nick Angelis and sophomore defenseman Anthony Mandravellos.  Early in the second period, sophomore Cole Nye scored what proved to be the game winner on a beautiful slap shot that found its way through a number of players with an assist going to junior center Jared Arnold .  In the third, Kerfoot would strike once again on the power play to give the Zebras a bit of breathing room, tipping in a Matthew McVeigh shot from the point. Nick Angelis would assist on the goal as well.  Anthony Mandravellos capped off the scoring in the closing minutes with a seeing-eye wrist shot from the point.  With the win, the Zebras improve to a record of 4-3- 1.  They will look to keep that momentum on Saturday, when they host Pingree at 4:30PM at home.
