As crisp fall weather returned to New England, the Middlesex boys cross country team traveled to Cunningham Park in Milton for a dual meet against Milton Academy. Amid autumn's cool breezes and the first drifting leaves, and on the firm footing of a gently sloping course winding through pine woods, fields, and meadows, many boys achieved season-best times, with the varsity dropping a close 25-30 decision to Milton but the junior varsity picking up a 23-33 win.
Sophomore Justin O'Toole ran an astute tactical race, sticking with the Milton frontrunners into the second mile before pulling ahead in the third to earn his second win of the young season in decisive fashion. Freshman Andrew Harris was once again second for the Zebras, with junior Jack Audett and senior co-captain Luke Collins following close behind. Senior co-captain Ted Pyne took the last scoring spot, while sophomore Jack Starobin and freshman Gavin Cassidy round out the varsity top seven.
Senior Kiran Tremblay won his first-ever race, pacing the junior varsity field by a fifteen-second margin. Strong performances from senior Zeke Golnik, freshman Cannon Caspar, junior Sam Ferrone and freshman David Latham earned another win for the junior varsity harriers, while junior John Fashek and freshman Zan Danoff rounded out the top seven.
Middlesex will hit the road again next week, travelling to Lawrence Academy in Groton for a critical mid-season quad against LA, Brooks and Thayer.
