MX BVS Match Report: 9/29/2017
Middlesex 2 Milton Academy 1
Â
Â
The ISL Showcase, played at Progin Park in Lancaster, MA brought together all 16 Boys' ISL Varsity Soccer teams at the same time, and it also brought forth one of the most entertaining matches in recent memory, as Middlesex came out on top, 2-1, against an excellent and consistently dangerous Milton Academy squad. It took some time for the game to settle in, with Milton working the ball through the midfield and finding Niall Murphy's feet at the top of the box for a handful of chances in the first half.Â
Â
The scoring opened in the 24
th minute on a counterattack, as Josh Quirk delivered a perfectly-weighted ball through to Jacob Charles, who opened his hips and curled the ball just inside the far post. Not long after that, Milton leveled the match with an individual dribbling effort and rolling poke past the keeper from Beck Kendig. The score was knotted at 1-1 going into the interval, and Middlesex took the lead again within ten minutes of the restart off of a corner kick. A clearance came out centrally 25 yards from goal for Nick Buonanno to settle and strike a dipping volley into the far corner for the ultimate match winner. Milton pressed forward relentlessly in the last half hour, and the pressure from Jeremy Verley and Adam Kulick just about brought the game level. Keepers Kenyon Pelletier and Alfonso De Vito combined for an excellent team win in goal for Middlesex.
Â
Junior Josh Quirk earned man-of the-match honors for his ability to be creative with the ball in transition, and for his tireless effort on the defensive side of the ball. Jacob Charles also stood out for Middlesex in the attack, along with the work of Haydn Herrema and Jack Lousararian in the midfield. It was a wonderful display of the quality in the ISL from both sides.
