The Middlesex Girls' Soccer team opened their home ISL slate with a visit from new league-member Tabor Academy. The girls played with great energy from the opening whistle, and after some sustained pressure, Lucie Gildehaus '18 cashed in for the game's first goal off a nice corner kick from Maddie MacMaster '18. Middlesex doubled up a few minutes later with another unsettled goal off a corner kick, this time Corina Kotidis '18 doing the honors. Tabor pushed hard to break through, but halftime arrived with Middlesex leading 2-0.
Tabor came out with something to prove in the second half, as they quickly gained field advantage, and controlled possession of the ball. Tabor finally got on the board in the 49th minute courtesy of a screamer hit from well outside the box that went in off the crossbar. Play moved back and forth for the middle part of the second half, until Tabor found an equalizer in the 66th minute. However, true to early season form, Middlesex dug deep and increased their intensity on the field, and in the 72nd minute, Carly Tilson '20, who was fed a great through ball by Ellery Winkler '19, hit the game-winner. A hectic final few minutes kept everyone on the edge of their seat, but Middlesex held on for the 3-2 victory.
We would also like to thank our parents and friends who supported the girls during our game, and for the delicious snacks and beverages afterwards!
The Zebras are back in action on the Chapel Field Friday, as they host Milton Academy.
