Middlesex Girls' Varsity Soccer opened their season Friday with a home game against crosstown opponent Concord Academy. The girls were eager to play, and they carried that energy into a positive opening 20 minutes. Good ball movement and unselfish play created the game's first goal by Maddie MacMaster '18. Middlesex continued to pressure the Concord Academy team, and eventually doubled the margin as Corina Kotidis '18 tucked a well-placed shot just inside the post shortly before halftime. A downpour blanketed play as the halftime whistle.
Halftime was extended due to a lightning warning, forcing both teams off the field as the bad weather passed. Middlesex struck quickly once play resumed, striking twice in the opening 5 minutes of the second half, both by Kotidis. A final tally midway through the half from Lucie Gildehaus '18 on a pretty give-and-go with Emma Murphy '19 concluded the scoring.
The Zebras will quickly be put the test again as they travel to Pomfret on Saturday 9/16.
