The Girls' Varsity Tennis team lost 1 - 14 against the other Zebras in the ISL -- Groton -- on Saturday. Despite good playing from our squad up and down the ladder, the Middlesex girls had trouble taking a lead and staying ahead in terms of the final score. Rain pushed the match indoors, where the doubles teams opened the contest.
Senior captain Caroline Reynolds and partner Helen Lasry '18 led the doubles matches at #1. The Middlesex girls employed good point construction and a competitive spirit; nevertheless, it was not enough to defeat their opponents, and Groton captured all of the doubles points.
As the match progressed to singles, senior Sophia Corning set an example for her team in composure and perseverance at #1. Sophomore Maud McCole at #4 won her second set, putting her team on the board.
The team has learned a lot in these early difficult matches and returns to a more regular rhythm this week. They will put in two practices before traveling to Pomfret on Wednesday.
