The Middlesex baseball team scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning on Wednesday and hung on for a 5-1 win over Brooks. The Zebras improved to 5-7 with the win.

The two starting pitchers engaged in a pitcher's duel for the first 4 innings, as neither team could push across a run. In fact, senior righthander Will Thrun held Brooks hitless for the first 4 2/3 innings of the contest.

The winning rally began with a walk to Mike Doherty, who promptly stole second base. After an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt, Thrun lashed a single to put the Zebras on the board. Pat Forelli followed with a ringing double up the left center field gap which scored two runs. A error and an RBI single by Jake Goorno brought in the final two Middlesex runs.

Thrun was again masterful on the mound, allowing just one run and striking out 9 to run his season mark to 4-1. The game marked the last home contest for seniors Thrun, Goorno, Forelli and Peter Blunt.

Middlesex returns to action against perennial league power Belmont Hill on Saturday at 2 pm.
