Girls' Varsity Tennis Defeats BB&N, 9-6

5/15/2017 10:49:00 AM

The Girls' Varsity Tennis team won its second consecutive match against BB&N Saturday 9 - 6. BB&N's courts are indoors where the match was played.
Led by Sophia Corning '17 at #1 singles, the Zebras captured 8 singles points and secured the overall win as the doubles were sent out. Corning put up a good fight, pitting consistency against an opponent with big, powerful strokes. While she lost a heartbreaker first set 5 - 7 and later the second, she won the respect of her teammates and spectators for her unflappability and resolve on the court. Helen Lasry '18, captain Caroline Reynolds' 17, Maud McCole '19, and Laura Kaye '17 all swept sets. Reynolds won her first set in a nailbiter tiebreaker 7 - 3 and took the second set 6 - 0. Similarly, McCole had a close first set, coming out ahead 7 - 5 and taking the second set 6 - 0.
Lasry and Reynolds battled it out at #1 doubles, as did Averill Emery '20 and Margaret Rand '19 at #3, both ending their sets 6 - 8. At #2, McCole and Miranda Fiore '19 were able to take their set 8 - 4, scoring the final point for their team.
The girls will put in two practices before facing Brooks Wednesday.
