Boys' Varsity Crew Hosts Brooks and Nobles

5/1/2017 1:31:00 PM

Middlesex faced off against Brooks and Nobles on the Concord River under sunny skies.  A variable tail wind resulted in some fast times over 1500 meters.
In the 4V race, Nobles went high off the line at 42 strokes per minute and settled to a high race pace, out-stroking both Brooks and Middlesex.  Brooks and MX battled through the first half until they reached the turn, and by the 1000-meter mark Middlesex had taken the lead.  Middlesex eventually crossed the line behind Nobles and ahead of Brooks.
The 3V race was a nail-biter from start to finish.  All three crews raced hard, stroke for stroke, all the way down the course.  No crew was willing to give an inch until the sprint, when Nobles finally edged out Brooks by 0.5 seconds and Middlesex by 2 seconds.  It was an impressive race, well fought by all three crews.
In the 2V race, Nobles took a lead early and held it down the course.  Brooks and Middlesex fought for positioning until the half way point, when Middlesex fell off the pace, eventually finishing third.
All three boats in the 1V race started strong, with some tough racing in the first 500 meters.  Nobles, rowing well at a 34, pulled away, and Brooks eventually put water between themselves and Middlesex.
Middlesex is in the heart of its spring racing schedule, having had three tough races in eight days.  The crews travel to Groton on Wednesday.
