Varsity Baseball Defeats Milton Academy, 5-3

4/20/2017 10:14:00 AM

Seniors Will Thrun and Peter Blunt both played key roles in the Middlesex baseball team's upset win over defending ISL co-champion Milton Academy on Wednesday as they combined for 5 hits and 5 runs batted in. Thrun also starred on the mound, notching a complete game victory in the 5-3 win.
Middlesex jumped on top early with a two out rally in the top of the first inning. Thrun laced a two out double and after a walk, Blunt knocked both runners home with a double of his own.
Milton chipped away, scoring single runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings to take a 3-2 lead into the last inning of play.
Middlesex would not be denied, however, as Jared Arnold opened the decisive rally by reaching on catcher's interference. A Mike Doherty single and a walk to Cormac Duhamel loaded the bases for Thrun, whose single tied the game at 3. Blunt then delivered the game winning hit with his second two-run double of the afternoon.
Milton threatened in the last of the seventh, putting the tying runs in scoring position but Thrun recorded the third out on a grounder to shortstop that was helped by a great pick by first baseman Kevin Campbell.
The win evens Middlesex's record at 2-2 and the Zebras return to action on Saturday when they host Thayer at 2:00PM.
