The Middlesex Boys' Varsity Hockey team came away with a hard-fought Eberhart Division win over Brooks School in a game played at Middlesex on Wednesday.
Junior Alex Rivet got the scoring started at 8:17 of the first period as he cut across the front of the Brooks net and fired a backhander through traffic that slipped past the Brooks goaltender. Kyle Heat had an assist on the play. Brooks evened the score with a shot from the point through a screen at 8:33 of the second period.
Late game heroics were provided by Jared Arnold, who took a tremendous wrist shot from the high slot after getting a nice pass from Brian Cloherty, as he entered the zone, breaking the tie with 4:08 remaining. However, Brooks scored a late goal with their goalie pulled by defenseman Owen Borek, his second goal of the game with 44 seconds remaining and it was a battle to the finish. The two teams will meet again at Brooks on Saturday, February 3rd. Although Brooks held a slight advantage in shots on goal, junior goalie Joe Stanizzi had a solid performance to secure the victory
