The Middlesex Boys' Varsity Hockey team won its home opener against Governor's Academy 3-0 in front of a packed house Friday evening. The win was anchored by an outstanding 48 save shutout by junior goalie Joe Stanizzi. Middlesex had consistent scoring, netting a goal in each period. Senior forward Tyler Hughey opened the scoring as he rolled off the left side and wristed a terrific shot past the Governor's goalie's left side. Jared Arnold and Brian Cloherty assisted on the goal. Harrison Clark expanded the goal scoring parade at 15:58 of the second with assists by Dylan Fields and Nick Angelis.This goal was a tic-tac-toe play as the Zebras attacked the goal and Clark fired off the inside of the left post. At 8:21 of the third period, Alex Rivet scored his first goal as a Zebra with Hughey notching his second assist of the game. The goal came as Rivet blocked a shot at the point, creating a breakaway and capitalizing for a shorthanded tally. Middlesex returns to action at home against Brooks on Wednesday.
