Middlesex Boys' Soccer Ties 2-2 at Home to BB&N

11/8/2017 5:02:00 PM

It was a tale of two halves in terms of energy and momentum, as Middlesex jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead only to squander it in the second half for a 2-2 draw.  Justin D'Alessandro played a long distance restart on frame and with some angled runs in front of the keeper it skipped by for the 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.  Middlesex controlled the ball and got it on the floor for long stretches of the first half and with five minutes to go before halftime, Haydn Herrema played a restart into the feet of Jacob Charles who turned and finished comfortably for the 2-0 advantage to Middlesex.  In the second half, BB&N gained confidence and momentum and were rewarded with a scrappy finish from Ben Gross-Loh in the 65th minute on a ball that was served from the left flank to the right and then back into the middle.  Middlesex had multiple chances to put the match out of reach, but were unable to get the luck to finish things off and had difficulty with controlling the stretched and vertical game.  With 13 minutes left to play, Gross-Loh received a ball on the right edge of the penalty area and spun into his defender for the penalty.  Gabe Levis hammered the spot kick that carried through a slight touch from goalkeeper Alfonso De Vito.  With the match tied at 2-2, there were again numerous chances in the stretched game to find the winner, but the final whistle went with a share of the points going to both teams.  A great deal of credit goes to the effort and character shown by the BB&N boys, who came back from two goals down to carve out a draw.  Though Middlesex is disappointed with the draw, there is only St. George's to focus upon, as they visit Middlesex this Saturday for a 2:00pm kickoff to conclude the ISL regular season.
