Girls' Varsity Soccer Cruises Past Pingree

11/4/2017 8:30:00 AM

Another beautiful fall afternoon saw the Girls' Varsity Soccer team take to Chapel Field to play against Pingree on Friday. The girls were ready to play against the team that knocked them out of last year's playoffs, and the early action did not disappoint. Middlesex set the tone early with quality possession in the middle of the field, and strong sideline play down the wings. Eventually, Lucie Gildehaus '18 steered home a cross from Maddie MacMaster '18 to put the Zebras up 1-0. That score stood until the halftime whistle.

As the second half opened, Middlesex was prepared to take on some more pressure from the Pingree girls, who came into the contest undefeated. The defensive line of Daisy Boynton '20, Corina Kotidis '18, Caroline Hughes '18, and Hannah O'Gara '18 worked hard in front of Ali Joseph '20 to keep Pingree off the board. Middlesex was able to counter-attack early in the second half, when Carly Tilson '20 took a pass from MacMaster and drilled it inside the near post to double the lead. The play went back and forth for the middle part of the second half as both teams created quality chances. Middlesex broke through again in the 68th minute, as MacMaster fed Ellery Winkler '19 through Pingree's defense and Winkler calmly finished a poor-angled shot, making it 3-0. Two more goals by Winkler and another by Gildehaus in the final 5 minutes sealed the victory for Middlesex.

Middlesex gets back to ISL action in the final week of the regular season with a trip to BB&N on Wednesday.
