MX Boys' Soccer Beats St. George's, 2-1, to finish 12-1-4 for the season

11/11/2017 5:35:00 PM

Middlesex hosted St. George's for a wild and competitive rivalry match up to close out the ISL boys' soccer regular season.  The home team had a strong first half and enjoyed extended periods of possession and created chances that tested the organized Dragon back line.  The first goal of the match came in the 26th minute, as Justin D'Alessandro played Josh Quirk in for a clean look at goal.  Quirk buried the chance to the back post, but that was the only tally to show for an excellent first half display.  The game grew more frenetic in the second half as St. George's pushed and fought for an equalizer.  They were rewarded in the 63rd minute by a wonder strike from Tate Michelson that swerved from right to left and into the top left corner from beyond the top of the D.  After a handful of near misses and close calls, Josh Quirk played a ball beyond the St. George's back line and Cole Swanson just beat the onrushing keeper to direct the ball on goal.  As the retreating defender tracked and made a desperate attempt at a clearance, Swanson pressured him enough to force the ball into the net for the 2-1 win.  Both teams showed grit and determination throughout the 90 minutes, and the rivalry was marked by intense competition and strong sportsmanship.

The five seniors for Middlesex were honored before the match for their sacrifice, leadership, and commitment to the program.  Thank you to Matthew Benedict, Colin McCabe, Walker Cook, Nick Buonanno, and Jack Lousararian for a magical senior season!  With the win, the Middlesex Boys' Varsity Soccer Team improves to 12-1-4 for the season, which places them 2nd out of the 16 teams in the ISL.  Next up is a bid to the New England Class B Quarterfinals!
