Boys' Cross Country Tops St. George's at Home

10/31/2017 1:02:00 PM

On a glorious autumn afternoon, the Middlesex harriers faced off against St. Mark's, St. George's, and Roxbury Latin in their final regular season meet. Though falling to powerful squads from Roxbury Latin and St. Mark's, the varsity and JV both picked up decisive wins against St. George's. Valiant racing was on full display under the gaze of encouraging onlookers.

The JV race was first, with junior Sam Ferrone and freshman Gavin Cassidy sprinting across the line as the first finishers for Middlesex in 20:20 and 20:23, respectively. Freshman Cannon Caspar and junior Andrew Danoff ran well together to be next two Zebras to score, while freshman David Latham and senior Zeke Golnik followed close behind them.

In the varsity race, as a gathering breeze sharpened the crisp chill in the air, sophomore Justin O'Toole was again first for the Zebras in a time of 18:04. Junior Connor Page ran a poised race to follow in 18:23, while freshman Andrew Harris, junior Jack Audett, and freshman Mac Hadden rounded out the team scoring, sophomore Jack Starobin being not far behind. Seniors Kiran Tremblay and co-captain Ted Pyne also ran tough races to finish in the varsity pack.

After this last home meet for the seniors, the team looks forward to a shortened week of training before Friday's ISL championship meet at Lawrence Academy in Groton.
