On a marvelously warm October afternoon, the Middlesex boys' cross country team traveled to pastoral Washburn Park to race on Tabor Academy's home course in a quad meet also against BB&N and Rivers. In the dappled shade of the looping trail, the varsity won decisively against BB&N while falling just short of Rivers, with Tabor sweeping the overall competition.
The JV boys race was the first of the day. Senior co-captain Ted Pyne came in 6th behind a strong pack of Tabor runners with a time of 19:43, right in front of the first JV BB&N runner. Freshman Gavin Cassidy, junior Andrew Danoff were next, with senior Zeke Golnik and junior Sam Ferrone coming across the line together at 20:33. freshman Cannon Caspar formed the rest of the top five, with freshman David Latham sprinting by right behind him, ahead of the second runner from BB&N.
In the varsity race, as the sunlight softened the lengthening shadows on the grass, sophomore Justin O'Toole finished 4th overall with a personal best time of 17:32. Freshman Andrew Harris was again second for the Zebras, running a poised race to come in at 18:15, while juniors Jack Audett and Connor Page followed close behind. Freshman Mac Hadden rounded out the team scoring, with junior Jack Starobin and senior Kiran Tremblay also posting solid finishes for varsity.
As November approaches with quickening feet and autumn asserts its presence more strongly, the Zebras look forward to hosting St. Mark's, St. George's, and Roxbury Latin at home for the last regular season race on Parents' Weekend.
