Krayer heads home the winner for Middlesex against St. Sebastian's in the 86th minute

10/21/2017 5:53:00 PM

St. Sebastian's hosted the Middlesex boys on their turf and proceeded to outwork the visitors for a dominant first half performance, but the score remained tied at 0-0 going into the halftime interval.  With a few structural changes in the second half, the game was more even and Middlesex began to generate some more effective play in the attacking half.  St. Sebastian's remained resolute and aggressive in their organized back line, led by senior Tim Kiley.  Middlesex eventually earned their first corner of the match with just under five minutes remaining, and junior Haydn Herrema served a peach of a cross to junior Justin Krayer to power home with his head from point blank range.  The final few minutes and extra time were full of energy and chances sprung through long service and bodies in the box, but somehow Middlesex emerged with a 1-0 victory.  Luck was certainly with the visitors, as they survived a rung crossbar in the first half and a ball miraculously cleared off of the line in the dying moments of the match.  The boys from St. Sebastian's deserve a great deal of praise for their indomitable will to keep fighting to win balls and go forward.  Jacob Charles really put in a great shift for Middlesex and Josh Quirk and Anyolo Makatiani applied great pressure in creating second half chances.  It was a great display of the passion and competitiveness in the ISL, and a cruel result for the hosts.
