The Middlesex Girls' Soccer team traveled north to Byfield for a midweek match with league opponent Governor's Academy on a sunny fall afternoon.
 
The team has been challenged to play up to their ability on the road this season, and Wednesday provided an opportunity to conquer the road demons. Facing off against a motived Governor's team, Middlesex was immediately playing on their back foot, as Gov's challenged every 50/50 ball, and played with great tenacity. Middlesex struggled to impose their will on the game, and Governor's took advantage of a defensive breakdown to break through and grab a 1-0 lead just before half.
 
The second half brought better energy by the Zebras, but Governor's was not to be denied on this day. Both teams created scoring chances throughout the second half, and Gov's put the nail in the coffin with a second goal late in the second half. Middlesex battled courageously to the final whistle, but had to settle for a 2-0 road loss.
 
Thankfully, the team doesn't have much time to dwell on the result, as Groton comes to visit Chapel Field Friday at 2:00PM.
