Middlesex hosted Groton for our traditional Friday before Long Weekend match up, and the game was intense and featured a number of key momentum shifts. For the first half hour of the match, Groton was clearly on the front foot, as Walker Davey pulled the strings in the midfield and the front duo of Bruni and Fitzgerald worked hard to get on the end of the balls played forward. Middlesex was happy to see the halftime whistle arrive with the score knotted at 0-0. The second stanza was a different story, as Middlesex applied more consistent pressure in the midfield and sprang a number of attacks that created excellent chances, only to be thwarted by the Groton keeper. The deadlock was broken in the 57
th minute, as a tackle won in the midfield found Jacob Charles with some space in the middle third to lace an accurate diagonal ball to set up Josh Quirk in a one-on-one situation on the left side of the box. After a few shifts of the ball, Quirk found just enough daylight to squeeze a shot off with his left that nestled into the far side of the net for the only goal of the match. Middlesex had a handful of other quality chances down the stretch and Groton pushed to counter for the equalizer, but ran out of time. Andrew Parker, Jack Lousararian and Haydn Herrems had excellent second half performances for Middlesex, while Davey and Goodrich put in great shifts for Groton.
