Girls' Varsity Soccer Nets Two in Victory Over Brooks

10/10/2017 7:35:00 PM

The Middlesex Girls' Soccer team returned home to take on Brooks School at Chapel Field on yet another glorious fall day. We have been spoiled with our game day weather this season!

Brooks proved to be a solid test, as they played a nice possession game against us, and they worked hard to regain the ball when they turned it over. The play flowed nicely up and down the field for most of the first half, with each team earning some solid scoring chances. It was Middlesex who found their way onto the scoreboard when, in the 36th minute, Ellery Winkler '19 played a nice ball through to co-captain Maddie MacMaster '18, who finished the play with great composure. The Zebras went into halftime leading 1-0.

Brooks came out with great energy and had the Middlesex girls on their heels for the opening stanza of the second half. But Middlesex was able to break through a stout defensive line when Winkler hit a well-struck ball from outside the penalty box, and tucked it inside the near post to push the score to 2-0. Brooks fought back furiously to try and climb back into the game, but Daisy Boynton '20 continued to impress between the pipes, calmly stopping everything that came her way. The final whistle saw Middlesex on top, 2-0.

Thanks to the friends and family who provided great fan support on such a beautiful afternoon!

The girls will be back at on Wednesday, as they travel up to Byfield to take on Governor's Academy.
