The Middlesex wrestlers competed against ISL opponents Brooks School and Thayer Academy on Wednesday afternoon. The Zebras defeated Brooks by a score of 43-36. A close match with the team winning 4 of 7 matches wrestled and each team adding forfeits. Congratulations to Jack Caniffe, who managed his tie breaking pin to take the team over the top.
Jack earned the team's Wrestler of the Week honors and the fans that made the trip were treated to an exciting match. Victories by Ted Pyne, Dante Gutbrod and Marcus Coward also contributed to the victory.
In the second match, a short handed Thayer team wrestled against Middlesex as the winter skies began to darken. The team held back most of the forfeits and the score ended with a respectable 36-24 advantage for Middlesex. Victories by Peter Daichman with a pin and Ted Pyne, also with a quick pin, were among the highlights.
This marks the turning point for the season as league tournaments and qualifiers are around the corner. The team is now 7-0 in the ISL, which has been a great start for the young rebuilding squad.
The Zebras next match is against Lexington Christian on Saturday January 21 at Lawrence Academy.
