Boys' Varsity Basketball posted their first ISL win of the season with a 51-43 victory over visiting St. Mark's. The team was led by juniors Kai Morris, Mike Doherty and Derek Demarzo, with 15, 14 and 12 points, respectively.
DeMarzo scored the Zebras last three baskets of the game in the final three minutes all assisted by junior captain Mike Doherty to keep St. Marks at bay.
The back and forth game saw the Zebras take an early 8-2 lead. St. Marks would recover quickly from their slow start and built a 19-12 first half lead but MX cut it to one at the break, 28-27. The first half start was led by 10 of Doherty's 11 points and 10 of Kai Morris game-high 15 points.
The second half started with Middlesex scoring the first 8 points to take a 35-27 lead, the second half would stay at a 4 to 8 point advantage throughout the half. The late game heroics by Demarzo, combined with some solid defense, and a few three pointers by freshman Tyler Gelormini (10 points) was enough to get Middlesex the win.
Kai Morris had a team high 9 rebounds to go with his 15 points. Doherty had 5 assists with his 11 points. DeMarzo had 5 rebounds to go with his 12 points.
The Zebras host the Rivers School on Friday evening at 6:00 PM in more ISL action.
