Ideal running conditions prevailed in Concord as the Middlesex boys opened their season at home against ISL rivals Milton Academy, Lawrence Academy and St. Sebastian's. On a firm and fast course, as the sun ducked behind the clouds, the Zebra frontrunners staked out a position in the lead pack and held their ground as the race looped through Estabrook Woods and back across the Circle. Senior co-captain Ryan Ewing led the way for Middlesex, cruising to the finish in 17:55, just steps behind the winner from Milton Academy. He was followed closely by teammates Connor Page, Luke Collins and Jack Audett, whose outstanding performances ensured a 23-34 victory over Milton, as well as decisive wins over St. Sebastian's and Lawrence. Senior co-captain Jack Pelletier was the fifth Middlesex runner to cross the line, while freshman Colin Craig and junior Ted Pyne stole team points from the opposition by outpacing the fifth place finishers from all three visiting schools.
Middlesex also took the only junior varsity boys race contested on the day, securing the top three spots against Milton as sophomore Andrew Danoff, junior Kiran Tremblay and senior Chad Arle finished in home course personal record times. They were followed closely by senior Dan Kramer in fifth place overall, with sophomore debutant Ace Wainaina securing an 18-37 win for the Zebras. Senior Max Corkran and junior Zeke Golnik rounded out the Middlesex top seven.
Middlesex will be on the road Saturday, Oct. 1, as the Zebras travel to Newport to face St. George's, Belmont Hill and Governor's.
