On another glorious fall day, Middlesex hosted Pomfret for its first home game of the season. Middlesex was a bit fatigued by its previous night's win and thus came out a little flat against a very athletic Pomfret team. The Griffins got on the scoreboard early in the first half with a strong outside shot into the back of the net. Middlesex dug in and battled back and shared much of the possession throughout the half. With less than five minutes to go, Middlesex found its rhythm with strong passing by Jacqueline White '17 who laid a ball off to Maddie MacMaster '18 on the wing who played quickly to Isabelle Fuchs '17 in the middle who then connected quickly to Ellery Winkler '19 up top. Winkler went one on one with the keeper and placed the ball into the lower left corner to even the score out. The game was tied going into the second half. Pomfret came out fast and furious and put in another goal within the first few minutes and then the battle ensued. Middlesex worked to reclaim momentum and midway through the half, Winkler came up with a cleared ball off of Pomfret corner to carry it up the field and fire it beyond the Pomfret keeper. As the clock wound down, the Zebras had many opportunities for the go ahead goal but the Pomfret keeper came up with several fantastic saves. With less than ten minutes to go in the game Pomfret capitalized on another defensive breakdown to take the lead. Middlesex shifted its lineup to pressure Pomfret's strong backline but the clock ran out and the Zebras suffered their first loss. They will rest up and re-focus to take on the Big Blue at Andover on Wednesday, September 21st at 3:00 PM.
