The Zebras hit the road to take on town rival Concord Academy on a beautiful fall afternoon. At the start of the first half both teams battled for possession. Concord Academy pressured quickly and forced many turnovers and took a 1-0 lead midway through the half by capitalizing on a defensive breakdown. But quickly thereafter Middlesex found its rhythm and commanded the field with quicker touches and utilizing its speed up top and on the flanks. Middlesex was led by senior midfielder, Kiara Wahnschafft '17, who controlled the center of the pitch with well-earned 50/50 balls and well executed passing. The Zebras were able to even the game after Ellery Winkler '19 fired a shot beyond the Concord keeper. A few minutes later nearing the end of the first half, once again, Winkler slipped the ball into the corner of the net to put the Zebras up by one goal going into the half. The second half started with the Zebras securing possession and the momentum of the game and put a third goal into the net by Winkler who broke her way through Concord's defensive line to go one on one with the keeper. The Zebra defense held strong as the clock wound down giving the Zebras a win for their 2016 season opener.
