Doherty '18 Throws No-Hitter in Victory Over St. George's

5/29/2016 7:54:00 AM

Sophomore righthander Mike Doherty threw a no-hitter to lead Middlesex to a 4-1 win over St. George's in ISL baseball action in Saturday. Doherty walked three and struck out 9 in his 92 pitch gem. The only run he gave up was unearned.

Middlesex scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Pat Forelli drew a lead off walk and Chase Steer's bunt attempt was thrown away, putting runners on second and third. An RBI groundout by Kai Long, an RBI hit from Peter Blunt and an RBI from Doherty scored the Zebra runs. Long would add an additional run with a sac fly in the 5th inning.

Doherty retired the first two batters in the 7th inning before issuing a walk. He ended with a flourish, however, striking out the final batter to enter the history books.

The game was the last for Steer and Long, two four- year members of the team.
