The Middlesex Girls' Varsity Tennis team closed out its season by beating traditional rival St. George's 10 - 5 Saturday. Temperatures were in the 90s and players from both schools struggled to stay cool and hydrated during the competition.
Led by Sophia Corning '17 at #1 singles, the Zebras captured the 8 points to secure the overall match before going into doubles. Sophia and Leyla Hotamisligil '18 both split sets at the top of the ladder, while Helen Lasry '18, Caroline Reynolds '17, and Laura Kaye '17 all swept their singles sets.
The Zebras continued to be relentless in doubles play. Sophia and Leyla started off strong but struggled to keep the lead. They employed good team work and put up a good fight, though the set ultimately went to their opponents 6 - 8. Caroline and Laura kept everyone on the edge of their seats in their close doubles battle, won 9 - 7. And senior Emma Pratt continued to show rookie freshman Maud McCole the ropes as they dominated with pace and point construction to win their set 8 - 3.
Our team honored our graduating seniors Abby Meyers (captain) and Emma Pratt in their last contests as Middlesex athletes. We wish them all the best and hope they'll come back to visit!
