Stepping out of the ISL, the Middlesex Girls' Varsity Tennis team decisively won their match Wednesday 13 - 2 against Pomfret. With temperatures in the mid-70s and sunny skies, everyone worked hard to stay focused and hydrated in the warmest match played this season.
The Zebras were determined to play an aggressive match and fought hard at each level to overpower the Griffins. Led by junior Sophia Corning at #1 singles, our team took 11 of the 12 available points before heading into doubles. Sophia, Leyla Hotamisligil '18, Helen Lasry '18, Laura Kaye ' 17, and Emma Pratt '16 all swept their singles sets. Junior Caroline Reynolds stepped up to play at a higher level than usual and split sets with her opponent at #3 singles, winning the tie break in the first set and losing the second.
Leyla and Caroline as well as senior captain Abby Meyers and Laura worked together to construct calculated and aggressive points and ultimately to take 2 out of 3 of the doubles sets.
The girls will celebrate their victory this evening, get some rest, and come out ready for two competitive practices before returning to ISL play against BB&N on Saturday.
