The Zebras played a terrific team game in Wednesday's matchup with undefeated Phillips Exeter. Both the defensive and offensive ends played with great heart and passion and, unfortunately, the time expired as Middlesex had the momentum in the final quarter of play. Middlesex played a disciplined attack, maintaining possession and controlling most draw controls in the first half. While Exeter got on the board with the first two tallies, the Zebra defense made many stops and the offense answered to tie it up 2-2 with 12:05 remaining in the half. The scoring went back and forth for the remainder of the half and both teams entered the second half with five goals under their belts. In the second half, Exeter always had a one or two goal edge, but the feisty Zebras continued to fight back. Inspired by terrific defensive play, the offense fought tirelessly to find the back of the net. With 10:10 remaining, Exeter gained a 10-7 lead, but Middlesex notched two goals in the remaining four minutes of play to bring the score to 9-10. Unfortunately, Exeter won the draw and held the ball, despite a terrific defensive effort led by Mary Demoulas, and the time expired with a final of 10-9. Overall, the Zebras played a terrific game led the by the seniors, Demoulas, Hannah Saghir, Emma Fehnel and Ellie Herring. The team will look to the next solid ISL matchup with BBN on Saturday, May 14th.
