Girls' Tennis Falls to Rivers

5/1/2016 10:47:00 AM

The Middlesex Girls' Varsity Tennis team lost to Rivers 4 - 11 on their home courts Saturday. With sunny skies and temperatures in the high-50s, we were blessed with another beautiful day for tennis.
Thanks to a home court advantage, the Zebras were off to a strong. aggressive start but struggled to maintain their lead as the matches wore on and the Rivers lineup showed their true strength.
Caroline Reynolds '17 started off ahead of her opponent, but too many unforced errors lost her the competitive and close first set 4 - 6. In the second set, Caroline struck a better balance between aggressiveness and patience to take the set 6 - 3 and win the point for her team.
Junior Laura Kaye decisively won her first set 6 - 3, putting Middlesex on the board. In the second set, her opponent dug in and secured a solid lead. Showing tremendous grit, stamina, and determination, Laura came back up and pushed the set into a tie breaker. Laura then won the final point of the TB with an aggressive move into the net and a winner to end the point, sweeping both of her sets.
The Zebras also secured another point in doubles with the good team work, deep baseline strokes, and aggressive net play of senior duo Emma Pratt and Abby Meyers (captain).
After a day of rest, the team will put in two focused practices before travelling outside of the ISL to play Andover on Wednesday.
