MX got its first victory of the season as it enters winter break with a 47-45 win over the Hopkins School in the Huckins-Rouse Holiday Tournament. MX jumped out to an early 19-12 lead but still found itself trailing at the half 23-20. MX would quickly turn the tide in the 2nd half with a 14-2 run, making it 34-25 with 11 minutes remaining. MX maintained the lead until a Hopkins 3-pointer at the 1:25 mark gave them a 45-44 advantage. On the ensuing play, junior Kevin McGrath would get fouled and hit both free throws. The remaining minute belonged to the MX defense and a couple of rebounds by sophomore Kabelo Tsotetsi. Kablelo would also add a free throw with 12 seconds left to the close the scoring at 47-45.
Junior captain Mike Doherty had 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. Freshman Tyler Gelormini had 11 points and 6 rebounds. Junior Kai Morris had 8 points and 6 rebounds. Tsotetsi finished with 6 points and 6 rebounds, Derek DeMarzo had 5 points and 6 rebounds, and freshman Eamon O'Malley contributed 3 blocks off the bench.
