Boys' Soccer Battles Roxbury Latin to 2-2 Tie

11/5/2016 9:38:00 AM

Friday's matchup between Middlesex and Roxbury Latin was an emotional roller coaster ride that wound up all even at two goals apiece.  Middlesex jumped out in front in the 5th minute when James Sanderson took a feed from Cole Whisnand and struck a ball towards the back post that skimmed off of a defender's head, off the far post, and into the side net for a quick 1-0 lead.  This lead held up through the first half, and RL's Harry Weitzel made some crucial saves for the visitors.  Roxbury Latin came out of the halftime interval with renewed energy, and were quickly level, as Ben Bryant struck the crossbar for Miles Davis to head home the rebound from close range.  Then, in the 60th minute, James Sanderson made a determined run with the ball to the byline and whipped a ball into the box that was punched into the far side net by Josh Quirk for Middlesex to go out in front again at 2-1.  Ben Bryant was fouled in the area in the 74th minute and he buried his spot kick to knot the score at 2-2 for RL.  The final 15 minutes was emotional and a bit chaotic, but the final whistle ended a fantastic match between two confident and hard working teams.  This ends a run of four matches in seven days for Middlesex, who are thankful for the arrival of a weekend of rest and recovery.  The draw was certainly a fair result, and both teams should be proud of the way that they represented the spirit of the league.
