Nobles hosted Middlesex on a beautiful late fall afternoon for a big match up of two talented ISL squads. The first half was very evenly matched, as Middlesex looked to capitalize on the counter attack, and Nobles looked to their talisman Matt Ranieri for constant threat as he fed off of the strong midfield play of Max McPherron. Josh Quirk unlocked the game just before halftime, as he took a feed from James Sanderson in the box and wiggled into a pocket of space before firing home for the lead. Quirk scored a similar goal in the first six minutes of the second half, and Middlesex began to absorb the waves of pressure thrown forward by Nobles. The defining moment of the match came with 18 minutes remaining, as Liam Sloan combined with Quirk in the midfield and made a slaloming run with the ball past a few defenders before hammering home to extend the Middlesex lead to 3-0. There was no quit in this Nobles squad, as they pinned Middlesex back in their own half for the bulk of the last 15 minutes and launched a slew of dangerous balls into the box. Middlesex keeper Kenyon Pelletier stood strong on multiple occasions, but was beaten by a back post finish from Harry Roberts to make it 3-1 with 13 minutes left on the clock. Liam Sloan put the doubt to rest with a confident penalty in the 88th minute to finish the 4-1 score line for the visitors. The play was spirited and technical, and the result does not do justice to the quality of the Nobles midfield and the play of their excellent keeper, Jack Roberts. Josh Quirk and Liam Sloan were excellent for Middlesex, as was the defensive leadership of Gavin Garrity-Rokous and James Sanderson.
