Girls' Cross Country Hosts Rivers

10/6/2016 10:48:00 AM

Middlesex fell to the small but mighty runners from Rivers today, running well in our only Wednesday meet of the season on our home course.  Freshman Gabby Walsh won the race for Middlesex, beating the first Rivers runner to the line by just 1 second. Senior Julia McClellan was next for Middlesex, in 4th place overall, also beating out a Rivers competitor at the line.  Junior Emily Li and sophomore Charlotte O'Toole ran well to finish in 6th and 7th places, ahead of the Rivers fourth runner.  Cross country races are won with the fifth runner, however, and today, Rivers had a stronger pack, placing seven runners ahead of a charging sophomore Katie Fujimori, who did all she could do to try to catch them.  The varsity seven for Middlesex also included freshmen Alene Fernandes and Maya Sidhu. Maya and freshman Phoebe Martin finished within steps of each other, both setting a new PR as they worked together all the way around the 5 kilometer course.
