Middlesex hosted another tough I.S.L opponent on Wednesday. The Middlesex Zebras and Lawrence Academy Spartans squared off in a physical back and forth battle. Ali Joseph '20 was strong in net thwarting a breakaway that nearly put the Spartans on the scoreboard first. Both sides competed for possession and eventually the Zebras found their rhythm playing a strong, composed possessive game. Corina Kotidis '18 was particularly strong for Middlesex winning the key 50/50 battles both on the ground and in the air allowing the Zebras to maintain possession. Finally, Ellery Winkler '19, with an assist from Isabelle Fuchs '17, found the back of the net with a fantastic shot just under the crossbar and beyond the reach of the Lawrence keeper to put the Zebras on the scoreboard. From there it was a defensive team effort to protect the one goal lead and to wear down the clock. Middlesex secured the win with stellar possession from Maddie MacMaster '18 up top. The Zebras will get back to work to prepare for another competitive I.S.L match-up against Brooks on Saturday in North Andover at 2:00PM.
